Check Out “SURVEY SAYS” Featuring Lex Luger & Shanique Marie

808 Mafia, Atlanta, lex luger, Trap Music

Composer Michael Vincent Waller fuses Classical and Trap on his new song “SURVEY SAYS”, his first single from the forthcoming CLASSIC$ EP available this Spring.

By interwining the worlds of classical, hip-hop, and trap music, the song blends dreamy textures and minimal classical tones over a bouncy soundtrack. Female singer/rapper Shanique Marie of Jamaican collective, Equiknoxx, celebrates the pride and joy of unity and self-love on the vocals while co-producer Lex Luger flips MVW‘s original composition, “Love 1”, from his album Moments, into a hypnotic and mesmerizing sample.

“Classic$ blends hip-hop and contemporary classical music in a very hybrid setting. Rap music has sampled classical features for decades, but rarely do we see post-Philip-Glass minimalism incorporated, where these neo-classical cinematic influences are at the melodic core of the entire production. This sample-inspired composition process yields new results in the introspective and hypnotic textures in trap music.”

MVW

Michael Vincent Waller is an American composer based in New York City. His music has been described as lyrical and introspective, drawing inspiration from impressionism, post-minimalism and world music. In collaboration with noted soloists and ensembles including R. Andrew Lee, Stephane Ginsburg, Dante Boon, the S.E.M. Ensemble, and Ensemble Dedalus, Waller’s work has been performed at Carnegie Hall, ISSUE Project Room, Roulette, Palais de Tokyo Museum, and SXSW.

The first female of Equiknoxx, one of dancehall reggae’s most innovative production teams, Queen of the Eternal Children, Shanique Marie mixed her influence of Reggae with Jazz to create a fresh sound while keeping her other roots in R&B, Hip Hop on her critically acclaimed UNO EP. No stranger to the airwaves, her breakout single “Coconut Jelly Man” featuring Cali P enjoying worldwide rotation, being playlisted on radio stations in Switzerland and Amsterdam amassing over One Million streams, with constant play in the United Kingdom, Poland and in her homeland, Jamaica.

“‘Survey Says’ is about absolute positive self-worth,” adds Shanique Marie. “Working with Michael came naturally as we both came from classical backgrounds. I grew up as a trained jazz vocalist and Michael is a classical pianist. Everything just gelled. That’s why we are on a journey to create even more music to make people feel good”

Shanique Marie

Lex Luger has produced tracks on Rick Ross’s Teflon Don, Waka Flocka Flame’s Flockaveli (which he produced 11 of the 17 songs), Slim Thug’s Tha Thug Show and Kanye West’s and Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne. He is noted for using impossible-to-play drum-machine programming that utilizes the sounds of a Roland TR-808 in a fashion for which the original machine was never designed. Luger has also worked with artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Soulja Boy, Snoop Dogg & Tyga.

Daunte Wright, 20, shot and killed by Minneapolis police after traffic stop

This past Sunday afternoon, Daunte Wright in the city of Brooklyn Center, was pulled over for a traffic violation. The officers discovered he had a warrant for his arrest, and when they tried to take the him into custody he allegedly attempted to get back into his car. An officer fired a weapon, shooting Wright, who then drove his car until it hit another vehicle, no major injuries reported from the passenger his girlfriend and the driver of the vehicle that was hit. Paramedics were called but Daunte was pronounced dead at the scene.

Protests has since erupted overnight in the city, with protestors being met with police in riot gear, facing rubber bullet shots, being tear gassed, and damaging police cars along the way. Daunte Wright’s mother has since gone public asking the protestors to be peaceful.

In an interview shared on Twitter by local KARE reporter Chris Hrapsky, Wright said she was on the phone with her son around the time he was shot by police.

“I heard the police officer come to the window and say, ‘Put the phone down and get out of the car,’ and Daunte said, ‘Why?’ And he said, ‘We’ll explain to you when you get out of the car,’” she recalled. The phone cutting soon after her hearing a scuffle noise. The mother called back for the girlfriend to answer confirming he had been shot.

Tension in America is tight with the ongoing trial of Derek Chauvin the murderer of George Floyd in another police killing from last year.

Alabama Rapper CHIKA causes twitter uproar after announcing retirement

Grammy nominated female rapper/singer CHIKA has apparently decided to quit the music industry citing the toll on her mental health. A decision she seems to have made prior to twitter, but after the post was met with a on-slew of negative replies and comments. CHIKA responded to the backlash causing the controversy due to her ‘wishing death’ on those who continued the online abuse.

“I don’t give a fuck about any of you stans being suicidal,” she began. “In fact, I hope you all are. Because guess what? I am too and have been, and it has very little to do with you guys because nothing you do matters. Let me repeat that: nothing you do matters. You’re nobody. The only thing you do is dogpile on top of people’s other mental problems and make them worse. I came on here and said I was retiring because that’s where I’m at — physically, mentally and emotionally.

“And you stupid bitches flooded my comments immediately, not know what the fuck I’m going through. You want me to give a good god damn about you and your stupid ass fifth grade stan friends? No, you can kill yourself too. Let’s do it together. Let’s make a suicide pact, you dumb fucks.”

She doubled down on her statements and further explained her retirement announcement.

“today, i shared that I was thinking of retiring because the mental toll being in the industry has taken on me is not something you bounce back from easily,” she said. “I’ve told my team, i’ve told my therapist, i’ve told friends and acquaintances. today i told twitter. what followed was a hoard of psychotic fans rejoicing in the decline of my mental health, harassing me as if I spoke to them first. when you have depression, the negative self talk you have towards yourself is deafening.

now imagine a slew of weirdos dogpiling on top of thoughts you already have to fight off yourself. it’s not fucking cool, it’s not ‘trolling’ or ‘stan culture,’ you’re pushing people to a point of no return. and no, i don’t feel bad for wishing death on people who shit like that cuz you deserve the same fate as the people you effect.”

We hope it ain’t truly so, but mental wellness comes first and Chika has never been shy about her struggles.

Authentic Empire Indie King Showcase, The Same Talent Competition That Helped Launch The Career of Foogiano, Announces DoughBoy D As The Winner of Indie King Showcase 4

On Saturday, April 3rd, Authentic Empire (AE) crowned Mississippi rapper DoughBoy D as the latest winner of their Indie King Showcase 4, which is the same talent competition that helped to launch the career of rapper Foogiano, now signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 imprint via Atlantic Records. There was also a $40k cash money drop at the end of the night to conclude the weekend long festivities in honor of AE CEO Lavour “Boomman” Sanders’ 40th birthday.

Out of dozens of performers, the southern spitter edged out the competition with seemingly his whole state supporting him. Held at Atlanta’s Miami Lounge, both Friday and Saturday nights performance slots were booked solid with extensive crowds wrapped around the building, which left standing room only inside the venue. DoughBoy D won a $25k cash advance, in addition to a single deal valued at over $150k and an iced out AE chain. The next showcase is set to take place this summer and slated to be even bigger and better.

“I really enjoy changing lives and helping indie artists maximize their potential,” says Sanders, a former artist and music manager himself. “I love the process of developing talent and giving them a platform to be seen and heard.”
