MsRivercity here taking you on a walk down memory lane with some of your favorite Atlanta rap celebrities. For those that don’t know, I was an editor at OZONE Magazine and handled viral promotions for DJ Scream’s mixtapes. I got to be a fly on the wall during the making of some pretty epic moments. Praise God for the opportunities. The pandemic has given me time to go through the archives and now I present to you some of my most treasured moments caught on camera:

2 Chainz Ludacris Playaz Circle
Playaz Circle and Ludacris (Yes, that’s Tity Boi and Dolla)

Crime Mob Diamond Princess MsRivercity
Crime Mob circa 2006. “Knuck If You Buck” was still the crunkest song in the club (still is really). Look at young Diamond & Princess!

DJ Scream 2006 MsRivercity
DJ Scream circa 2006. I met DJ Scream when he was touring with Crime Mob. Scream never left the house without those white sunglasses. Heavy in the Streets!

Rocko Future DJ Esco Magic Video Shoot MsRivercity
Rocko, Future, DJ Esco and Friends at Magic City. This was a breakthrough moment for Future. The next day this party was all over the internet. (Check my throwback “Dirty Sprite” interview with Future at the end of this article.)

DJ Drama, Rocko, 2 Chainz, Future, DJ Scream Hot 1079 by MsRivercity
Hot 107.9 Hoodrich Radio show with guests Rocko, Future, 2 Chainz, DJ Drama. Shouts out to DJ Sense. DJ Scream had let go of the sunglasses by this time.

Gorilla Zoe Zaytoven Listening Party by MsRivercity
Zaytoven and Gorilla Zoe at Penthouse Studios ATL. I believe this was a private listening party for “King Kong” circa 2011

Gucci Mane Zaytoven photo by MsRivercity
Gucci Mane and Zaytoven in the studio circa 2009. Everything Zay and Gucci made together was pure trap perfection. History.

OJ da Juiceman Atlanta photo by MsRivercity
OJ da Juiceman on the Eastside circa 2010. OJ’s first magazine article was with OZONE Magazine and I was blessed to do the cover interview. You can watch a snippet of some old footage from DBS Sounds down below.

Waka Flocka video shoot photo by MsRivercity
Waka Flocka circa 2009. Waka’s “O Let’s Do It” was the hottest song in the open mic clubs on the Northside of Atlanta. We introduced him to DJ Scream and Scream cleaned up the song for the radio. Once it premiered on Hoodrich Radio it became a nationwide hit. Waka was signed to Brick Squad at the time, but he pushed everything himself and made the come up through a true independent grind.

Young Jeezy The Recession Album Signing photo by MsRivercity
Young Jeezy at “The Recession” album signing in 2008. (Ironically suitable for a re-post at this time.) The line to the record store was out the door and I had to fight my way to the front for this photo. One time, I snuck in the back door at a concert with Jeezy’s crew and pretended to be part of the entourage. I still have no idea how I got away with that one, but a hustling photographer will find a way to be in the right place at the right time.

That about does it for this round of photos. I’ll have more coming soon. Be sure to follow me on Instagram @MsRivercity and enter the contest to win the OJ cd. It’s packaged and ready to go. I’ll announce the winner on Throwback Thursday, March 4th, 2021 at 12pm.

Kanye West Hosts Sunday Service at New Birth Baptist Church in Atlanta – Video

September 16, 2019 by Ogechi
press release

Dozens turned out over the weekend for the ‘popular’ concert style, worship service being presented by rapper Kanye West at New Birth in Atlanta, Georgia. The front row consists of the finest in business rapper Ti, his wife Tiny, rapper 2 Chainz with wife, and internet sensation, singer Elijah Connor. The pastor of the church is gospel socialite ‘Jamal H. Bryant.

The service was nearly 3 hours long and featured sermons and prayers from members of the church’s congress. The revival which is on a mini tour launched by Yeezy himself, just left his home town Chicago as well. Kanye West was dressed comfortably in a white shirt and gray sweatpants.

Some people are on the fence regarding the sincerity in Kanye’s congregation in terms of his belief in God. While many are speculating his service is something of a ‘cult’, others have made the conclusion not to test anyone’s faith in the Lord.

Take a peek at the service and tell us if you caught the Holy Ghost. Enjoy!!

Zaytoven Brings Out Quavo & 2 Chainz For “Wake Up & Cook Up”

December 8, 2017 by Dj RootsQueen
Single Release
2 Chainz, Atlanta, hip hop, Quavo, rap, trap, Zaytoven

Zaytoven enlists some heavyweights on “Wake Up & Cook Up.”

Zaytoven has been one of the most influential players in propagating the Atlanta hip-hop aesthetic, and his talents continue to flourish with every drop. The veteran producer has been hard at work preparing his new album, set to drop on Motown Records, and today, Zay has decided to give us a taste of the project’s lead single. The track features two of the game’s most prominent emcees, Quavo and 2 Chainz, and both rappers turn in solid verses, particularly the latter. In fact, 2 Chainz has been having a phenomenal year behind the mic, furthering his reputation as a formidable lyricist.

Quavo has also been having a prolific year, and he seems intent on ending it on a high note. Yesterday, the Migos man took shots at Joe Budden, and is currently sitting on both a Quality Control compilation and a collaborative project with Travis Scott, titled Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho. In the meantime, check out the latest fire from Zaytoven, 2 Chainz, and Quavo, available now in select international markets.

Quotable Lyrics

One phone call will get ya killed, I don’t even gotta scroll

Had an apartment with no furniture, but at least it had a stove

Turn up at the white water, everybody get their splash on

Other day I walked into Gucci, told them folks I was back home
