Reading Matters

2020 has been a challenging year for the youth as they transitioned from attending school during the week to staying home for online learning. This school year has been the new-normal as children all around the world are waking up, getting dressed and headed to their computers to log in for class. Some children are more fortunate then others with having access to the internet, assistance from a guardian, meals, and a systematic plan set in place for their future success. On the other hand, many parents are working longer hours to make ends meet, and just do not have the time or money to be there for their children’s education advancement. 2 Sisters of First Water comes into play for those parents in need and is delivering a one -stop shop where your children can stay and learn all day with after-school hours.

Reading plays a major part in the development of any child. Young Black males have tested least high in that area and is without a doubt a leading cause to a later effect of mass incarceration, unemployment and many more setbacks.

“A 2017 report by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) found that just 18 percent of Black eighth-graders reach reading “proficiency.” And in 2015 NAEP found that only 17 percent of Black 12th graders were proficient at reading. This means that during normal times, fewer than two out of every ten African-American high school graduates have the baseline skills they need to succeed. Compare that to the nearly half of White 12th graders who tested “proficient,” a rate about three times higher than that of Black high school seniors”                 https://www.thecrisismagazine.com/

The lack of teachers, teacher’s aides, and funding has created a downward decline in adequate learning in inner cities.  This convenient and brilliant program is welcoming to children of Fulton county, DeKalb County, and Clayton County school districts. The founders of the program are two sisters from Georgia, Missy and Deborah Peyton. The mission of their program is to make sure each student they meet is enriched and empowered. Their initiative is to assist parents with relieving some of the pressure regarding monitoring their children’s education completion at home. First Water is not a school, the program is set in place to help children stay focused on completing their homework and studying. The children will be monitored by the instructors at the program and will be exposed to learning in a comfortable and calm atmosphere.

There is also a after school program and an anti-bullying course with counselors on site to listen to any concerns that children may want to discuss.

This is the perfect environment for your children! The founders of First Water are highly professional, experienced with children, and are running a top-notch program where the needs of the youth come first.

The beautiful Jade Taylor talks being a rapper from Philadelphia & more with Atlanta talk show Queen, Carisha The Diva!

Jade Taylor is 1 of Phila’s biggest rising stars! It is no secret that Jade Taylor is drop dead gorgeous and could probably pick up a 2nd job in the modeling industry if she felt like it. The soft-spoken MC checked in with Carisha The Diva in Atlanta, and talked about her upcoming music, beauty regiment, working in a male dominated field and the challenges of being an independent artist. A lot of her fans do not know she has a twin brother who is also in the industry as well, but please don’t expect any twin projects soon because these two like to stay in their own lane. Her favorite sport is football, and if she could collab with anyone in the industry she would love to work with Megan Thee Stallion and Summer Walker. Being a female rapper in the Hip Hop industry is a full-time job because you are always competing to prove your artistry goes past what you look like. Luckily for Jade, she is being managed by a strong woman who is branding the ‘Wine For Me’ artists to stay sharp and 10 toes down! We are proud that Jade has such a great balance of intelligence, talent, and ambition which is for sure allowing her to elevate to new levels in her career. Rapper Quette.D Talks 1 on 1 with Atlanta Media Queen ‘Carisha The Diva’!

Quette.D has been quite busy in the industry grinding hard all summer. Many independent artists forget that it is a marathon and move too fast without accomplishing much of anything. Atlanta native Quette.D is the exact opposite. Taking the ‘text-book’ artist approach, he secured a DOPE feature with 1 of the hardest rappers to break out this summer, Gucci Mane’s newest rap weapon, Foogiano. Quette and Foogiano teamed up for his latest single ‘All In’ which is out now and going crazy on all platforms. Growing his fan base every day, and staying consistent with his music has helped the strategic artists to cover a lot of ground in the city. He also has a hot clothing line he recently dropped ‘Breadlyfe’ and is pushing his merch everywhere! As we are heading into the final quarter of the year in the music business, it is safe to say that Quette had a very productive summer, and we are looking forward to what is next to come from him. Check out his 1 on 1 interview with Carisha The Diva Follow him on Instagram Quette.D

Everyone enjoys the experience of trying delicious, freshly made gourmet food from top of the line chefs. To stay productive during these trying times and the pandemic, Brady Lowe and DJ Lord begin doing a Café Quarantine, which is a opportunity for guests to eat, drink, and listen to music. They took it to a new level turning it into a competition, with 2 Chefs producing their best plates for the judges to rate their favorite.  Owner of ‘The Pantry Atl’, Brady Lowe and Maxim Magazine heated things up a notch hosting this kitchen cook-off, and bar competition starring Chef Mendin and Craig Richards with music by DJ Lord. The bar competition included a punch off to see who could whip up the best Fish House Punch. The judges were each sat bar style and enjoyed being catered to by each chef serving their best dishes. The atmosphere was quite lively, and all the guests were upbeat and enjoying the event. The competition highlighted aquaculture, great chefs, the best bar keeps and DJ Lord of Public Enemy. The event was live streamed on Maxim Magazine’s Facebook page with several fans tuned in and watching everything go down in real time.

Chef Mendin from Miami was one for the books with his hibachi lobster dish and said it is the most sustainable seafood.  The 2x winning food champ in Miami says he enjoys cooking with lobster. He flew into Atlanta to be a part of this competition which was inspired to set the bar in the culinary industry, especially pushing plant-based food. He and Craig Richards the 2nd chef in the competition, met in Miami and have been friends for a few years now both having a huge love for the art of cooking. A&R of Familiar Territory Records. Digital Ro Dope 1 of the judges for the competition said that everything was amazing, and the plates had a wide variety of ingredients with a lot of time put into it. Craig Richards who is from Atlanta, created a mouthwatering lobster dish brushed with a Japanese Togarashi butter and pressed in sesame seed, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds and plated over a corn and vegetable puree.

The judges were using score cards to pick 1 winning bar keep who had the best fish-house punch and the chef with the best dish. They were judging on presentation, sustainability, food taste and could also give out bonus points.

This was the 1st Fish House Competition in Atlanta, Ga and if you missed it, do not be sad because this is just the beginning. Follow The Pantry Atl for more upcoming events and mixers. The drink feature choices were between a Wheatley Vodka or Buffalo Trace Bourbon. The cooks choose Lobster and Red Snapper for their dish selections. Everyone apart of this outstanding event did an excellent job on their delivery, and after the votes were tallied, the winners were announced.  The winning bar keep was Ryan Smith for his Fish House Punch. He was awarded with a golden fish and a miniature barrel of whiskey.  The winning chef was Chef Mendin. Look at the entertaining live stream below.

Super producer Zaytoven Beatz grabbed a BEAST to join the “Familiar Territory Records” family, ‘Coe Mook.’

When it comes to maintaining consistency, quality, and relevance in the shark industry known as the record business, legendary producer ‘Zaytoven Beatz’ never disappoints with dropping the hardest beats and working with the best artists. What started out as making beats in his parent’s basement and sneaking 1017 CEO, Gucci Mane through the back door late at night to record, has flourished to the multi-talented Grammy nominated producer earning major respect in the business and making beats for top names such as Future, Usher, Kash Doll, Lil Keed, and his newest member of his label ‘Coe Mook’. Another important name to be sure to recognize in this equation is Zaytoven’s genius manager, Digital ‘Ro’ Dope. Ro has been a mega force and highly respected businessman who stands beside Zaytoven on the accolades of delivering several successful and hard projects. Just this past summer we got back to back hits from this camp with the highly anticipated collab album featuring Lil Gotit, Lil Keed, Lil Yachty and Zaytoven ‘A-Team’, a sample of what is to come on the next Zaytown Sorority Project featuring his all-star female line-up, and of course his ‘Zone Connect’ project with Oj Da Juiceman, Young La, and Juug Man aka Yung Ralph.
The newest edition to his label, Coe Mook can DEFINITELY hold his own in the music industry. Hailing from Massachusetts, and now living in Alabama, this is not his first rodeo working with the music genius. Mook was featured on the ‘Zaytown Classic Mixtape’ a few years ago and has did a little work with Gucci Mane as well. Sometimes when working in the music industry you simply must wait your time to come out the crate and make your mark. Now is his time, and we are pleased to announce that Mook found his way back to Zaytown and just signed with Zaytoven’s Familiar Territory Record Label. Mook has his own sound that distinguishes him from the ‘mumble rap’ category and catapults himself into real Hip-Hop drip, with hard bars and a signature flow. As a father of 3 young Kings, he is determined to provide a prosperous life for them, and he wants those around him to be “inspired to pursue their passion and believe in the possibility of success.” Mook dropped some new music earlier this year, and we are looking forward to his upcoming achievements and new milestones with the Familiar Territory Family! His newest project “Yea Wit Da Yea” just dropped today check it out below!!

Indie artists are proving they have what it takes to make it in the shark world we know as the music industry!

Independent artist ‘Fk Woodz’ just dropped his new single ‘Options.’ We are loving the new music from him. The Chicago native who now resides in Atlanta, presumably one of the most notorious cities for Hip-Hop, has a team behind him in support of his music and creative ability. FK Woodz has some musical skills on the piano as well and can play by ear giving him an advantage when it comes to the production aspect of creating music.  The budding artist started out in a music group with his cousin where they recorded a couple of projects but, it was not until going solo that he truly took his career much more serious. The music industry is no joke and it is refreshing to see such hard-working artists stay productive during 1 of the hardest years of the decade. 2020 has been challenging to say the least, but luckily with positive reinforcement and staying prayed up you are able to make it through such stressful times. The beat featured on the track is a catchy snare beat produced by StardustSzn. We have a little 1 on 1 with FK Woodz below. Check out some cool insight from him and go stream the new single ‘Options’ out now!!

  1. Tell us about the vision for your song ‘Options’?

The vision for options was pretty simple from an artist standpoint. I wanted to create a record that would target the regional market that I am in. Something that is fun and catchy yet still has a message. I did not want to implement a ‘A B C ‘rhyme but more of a seasoned writer’s style with a southern cadence.

  1. You are from Chicago, now living in Atlanta. Has moving here benefited your career?

Atlanta is the mecca for entertainment. Everything is poppin down here especially the music scene. I have met tons of producers and other artists. I’ve also had radio airplay. Atlanta is just where it’s at plan and simple.

  1. How often do you drop new music?

I am always recording new material, but you can look for me to drop new music every 6 – 8 weeks consistently.

  1. What are some of your challenges you struggle with as an independent artist?

What I struggle with the most as an artist is getting that big budget lol. Making good music is always the easy part but you need that budget behind you to push it where you want to go.

  1. Who would you collab with if given the opportunity?

My top collab would have to be Drake, but I am pretty much open to link up with just about any artist of any genre.
