Today in Hip Hop history.. #LilWayne Released on December 6, 2005, “Tha Carter II” was the highly anticipated fifth studio album from rapper Lil Wayne (@liltunechi) 🧯🧯🧯

Released on Cash Money/Universal Records (@cashmoneyofficial), “Tha Carter II” dropped following the hype Lil Wayne had established through much of 2005. Serving as a sequel to 2004’s “Tha Carter”, Wayne continued to evolve both lyrically and artistically, as evident on songs like ‘Tha Mobb’, ‘Hustler Musik’, and ‘Money on My Mind’. “Tha Carter II” was also noteworthy for being the first Wayne release to not feature production from former in-house Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh (@manniefresh), instead featuring production from The Heatmakerz (@officialheatmakerz), The Runners (@maynezane), DJ Nasty & LVM (@djnasty), and others. Guest features included Kurupt (@kurupt_gotti), Curren$y (@spitta_andrettii), Robin Thicke (@robinthicke), Nikki Jean (@fakenikkijean), and Birdman (@birdman5star) 🧯🧯🧯

Certified 2x Platinum, “Tha Carter II” was also showered with critical acclaim. With a work ethic in the mid-2000’s that was unrivaled, “Tha Carter II” signaled the beginning of Lil Wayne’s reign atop the rap game, and added credibility behind his boast ‘Best Rapper Alive’ 🧯🧯🧯
